Design Documents

Design documents are those documents which deal with any kind of design, be it graphic designs, software designs, handloom designs or any other category of designs. Such documents are generally made when a department or person in charge of designing submits the finals design results to the concerned authorities. In other cases, design documents are related with the specifications of a particular code for a software program.

To frame different types of design documents, one need to follow different methods and ways but the basic criteria behind it remains the same. The following points shall help you get an idea about the way a design document drafting should be handled:

  • The first thing to be kept in kind before starting the framing of a design document is the clear understanding of the kind of design that it is. For example, whether the design is a graphic design or a game design and so on.
  • Secondly, the tone and the manner in which this document is written should be specific to the audiences for whom it is meant for. In some case, casual tone works but mostly one need to follow a formal outlook throughout the design document.
  • Usually, design documents need to be very detailed. The complete design with proper explanation should be written. The importance and the objective must be reserved in a section of the document.

There are many types of design documents depending upon the kind of design that they deal with. The following are a few examples:
